Windows Autopilot – White Glove Concept

With Windows 10 1809 Microsoft have now granted the ability to assign an existing Intune user to a specific Windows Autopilot device. Currently this enables the following.

    • The ability to have a custom user greeting
    • Populate the user name to facilitate user enrolment of the device
The most interesting thing about this is that we can also look at this as a first step to resolving one of the remaining hurdles with Windows Autopilot and that is around Apps, specifically the time and network resources needed to install a user’s apps post enrolment.

This user assignment facilitates a future concept that Microsoft announced at Ignite code named White Glove, which will allow client’s user Apps to be installed in advance at a staging location, resealed for OOBE and sent to the user. As this is a concept and no time frame has been suggested for its release. More importantly also this would require that the Service Providers integrate White Glove into their staging process.
